Lunar eclipse visible in India- 7 September 2025!

Hello! Today on 7th September, a total lunar eclipse will be visible in India. Timing for this eclipse for India is this: At around 8:58 pm, the Moon will enter the Earth's penumbra (partial shadow), at around 9:57, it will enter the umbra (complete shadow) and then its surface will look reddish. Between around 11 to 12:22 pm, the Moon will be in the umbra and will look red. Exact timing will slightly very for different locations. Even in the total eclipse condition, some Sunlight scatters from the Earth's atmosphere and reaches the Moon and therefore it will continue to be red and visible. When the Sun, the Moon and all planets- stars rise and set, they look reddish (as wavelength of red colour is maximum and this colour scatters the least in atmosphere and therefore it is also used in signals). 

Thus, tonight we can see the lunar eclipse. Even with clouds, we can glance the Moon for some time. If there are no clouds, then after Sunset, Mars will be visible in the West, Saturn will be visible in the East after 8 pm, bright Jupiter will rise at around 1 am and at the dawn shining Venus will be in the East. Even if clouds are there, we can take a chance. We can explain this event to the children.

भारतातून चंद्रग्रहण दिसणार- ७ सप्टेंबर २०२५!

नमस्कार! आज ७ सप्टेंबरच्या रात्री भारतातून खग्रास चंद्रग्रहण (total lunar eclipse) दिसणार आहे. भारतातला ग्रहणाचा वेळ असा आहे: साधारण ८:५८ ला चंद्र पृथ्वीच्या उपछायेमध्ये (penumbra) प्रवेश करेल, ९:५७ ला चंद्र प्रच्छायेमध्ये (umbra) जाईल आणि तेव्हा त्याचा पृष्ठभाग लालसर दिसायला सुरूवात होईल. साधारण ११ ते १२:२२ ह्या वेळेमध्ये चंद्र प्रच्छायेमध्ये असेल आणि त्यावेळी तो लालसर दिसेल. स्थानिक वेळेनुसार थोडा फरक पडेल. चंद्रग्रहणाच्या खग्रास (total eclipse) स्थितीमध्येही पृथ्वीच्या वातावरणामधून काही प्रमाणात पोहचणार्‍या सूर्यप्रकाशामुळे चंद्र पूर्ण अंधारात जात नाही आणि त्यामुळे तो लालसर दिसत राहतो. जेव्हा सूर्य, चंद्र व सगळेच आकाशातील तारे- ग्रह उगवतात व मावळतात, तेव्हा त्यांचा प्रकाश वातावरणाच्या जाड थरातून जातो आणि म्हणूनच ते उगवताना- मावळताना लालसर दिसतात (लाल रंगाची तरंगलांबी सर्वाधिक असल्यामुळे तो रंग सर्वांत कमी विखुरतो आणि म्हणूनच तो सिग्नलमध्येही वापरला जातो). 

तर आज रात्री चंद्रग्रहण बघता येऊ शकेल. ढग असलेच तरी थोडा वेळ चंद्र दिसूही शकतो. ढग नसले तर संध्याकाळी सूर्य मावळल्यावर पश्चिमेला मंगळ, पूर्वेला ८ नंतर शनि, रात्री १ नंतर पूर्वेला उगवणारा ठळक गुरू व पहाटे ५ ला पूर्वेला शुक्र हेही बघता येतील. ढगांमुळे हे दिसलं नाही तरी रात्री उशीरा आकाश बघायला हरकत नाही. त्या निमित्ताने मुलांना हा घटनाक्रम समजावून सांगता येईल.
