Experiencing Kumaon Himalaya 6: Trekking in Munsyari and thrilling jeep journey

Dawn of 9th December! Last sky watching session at Munsyari! Enjoyed the sky till last moment. Enjoyed the shining Pancha Chuli peaks in the Moonlight. Also enjoyed the cold weather! Packed the telescope after it was daylight. Left for the village trail after first round of tea. Feeling very blissful in the soft sunlight of the morning. Yesterday I had walked to one nice place in the town and now will explore it further

Munsyari town! It is a block headquarter and almost the largest town in north side of Pithauragarh district. Many women are walking on the road along with a cylinder on their shoulders. So many, that I felt that this may be the only day of the month for getting the cylinders. And here there are no auto rikshaws, so they may be carrying it themselves. Later on I came to know that cylinder is available every day and the women carry it this way only. I also saw women carrying other bulky objects. 

 

I roamed across the town. Small houses resembling quadrilateral. From January to February it snows a lot here. Therefore many houses have room- heaters. This town is some distance away from border roads. Maybe that's why roads towards this are not that good. I walked on the village paths and enjoyed serene views. I crossed small water streams. School going children are walking on this trail. As there are not many vehicles to commute, people walk a lot and also work hard. Here fat persons are rare. 

The trail connects to small villages. It goes inside from the main road. After some distance, the trail again came back to the main road. I returned from the main road. On the road also there are many students and parents. Such a beautiful region to walk and enjoy the nature! I returned back to the homestay and then had a cup of tea in the company of Pancha Chuli peaks! I avoided breakfast as I had to travel for 4-5 hours.

I got the jeep just near the home stay. But it took much time to actually leave Munsyari as the driver picked up other passengers from other parts of the town and also took the fuel. As a result, it was 12 when we actually left. I am lucky to get the front seat with great view! I could watch and took plenty of photos and videos. 

Every now and then simplicity and bonding between Pahari people is visible. One woman gave some large amount to the jeep driver and told him to give it to someone in one village. Their conversation revealed that they do not know each other before this. But she trusted him and he also took it gently. He also took some luggage in villages outside the road. This jeep ride is so nice. I am able to see great views! Later on the jeep stopped in Baram village for lunch. Gori Ganga river is just near the road and I could enjoy views over there! Due to many breaks and this lunch break, it took much time to finally reach Satgarh. Despite of wide highway from Jauljibi, it took 5 pm when I got down from the jeep at Satgarh. 

Now there is a kuchcha road till the house in Satgarh. But it is equally beautiful like a trail. I did this 10 minute trek with all the luggage- laptop, binocular and the telescope. Sun receding to the West and golden views! Of course, a passing thought about that tiger! I also meet a few villagers. Reached the home just before it was dark. As I had walked with the luggage, I got warm for a brief time. But shortly, started experiencing the cold climate! At such time, tea is just unmissable! Slowly, the mountain and trees faded in the darkness. Stars emerged and also the light in Dhwaj temple! As the Moon rose further late, the sky was great and could take some more photos. Tomorrow I will trek to Dhwaj temple and then by the next day, I will start return journey!

कुमाऊँमधील रम्य भटकंती भाग ६: मुन्सियारीतला ट्रेक आणि थरारक जीप प्रवास

९ डिसेंबरची पहाट! मुन्सियारी आकाश दर्शनाचं शेवटचं सत्र! डोळे भरून आकाश बघितलं. चंद्र प्रकाशात चमकणारी पंचा चुलीची शिखरं मन भरून बघितली! थंडीचाही भरपूर आनंद घेतला! उजाडल्यावर टेलिस्कोप पॅक केला. चहाचा पहिला राउंड झाल्यावर आवरून भटकायला निघालो. कोवळं ऊन अंगावर घेताना मस्त वाटतंय. काल गावात थोडं फिरलो होतो तेव्हा एक जागा सुंदर दिसली होती. त्या भागात अजून पुढे फिरेन.

एका सुंदर गाण्यासह जीपमधून बघितलेला नजारा इथे बघता येईल.

मुन्सियारी गांव! तालुक्याचं ठिकाण आहे आणि पिथौरागढ़ जिल्ह्यातील जवळ जवळ उत्तरेकडचं सर्वांत मोठं गाव. इथे फिरताना खूप महिला डोक्यावर सिलेंडर घेऊन जाताना दिसत आहेत. इतक्या जास्त की, असं वाटलं की, कदाचित महिन्यातून आजच इथे सिलेंडर मिळत असतील आणि म्हणून त्या नेत असतील. आणि रिक्षा नसल्यामुळे डोक्यावरून नेत असाव्यात. पण नंतर कळालं की, इथे सिलेंडर रोज मिळतो आणि महिला अशाच त्या नेतात. पुढे महिला इतरही मोठं सामान नेताना दिसल्या. 

मुन्सियारी गाव फिरलो. छोटी छोटी आणि चौकोनी घरं. जानेवारी ते फेब्रुवारीमध्ये इथे बर्फवृष्टी होते. त्यासाठी अनेक घरांमध्ये रूम हीटरही असतो. हे गाव तसं सीमेलगत जाणा-या रस्त्यांवर येत नाही. त्यामुळेही कदाचित इथले जवळचे रस्ते इतके सुस्थितीत नाही आहेत. पायवाटेवरून हिमालयाच्या शिखरांचा आनंद घेत मस्त चाललो. छोटे धबधबे दिसले. पायवाटेवर शाळेत जाणारे मुलं भेटले. पहाड़ामध्ये येण्या जाण्याची‌ साधनं कमी असल्यामुळे पायी जाण्याचं आणि मेहनतीचं प्रमाण खूप आहे. त्यामुळे शक्यतो लठ्ठपणा कमी दिसतो. 

पायवाट छोट्या गावांकडे जातेय. रस्त्याच्या बाजूने आतमध्ये जातेय. पुढे गेल्यावर पायवाट परत रस्त्याकडे आली आणि येताना मुख्य रस्त्यावरून चालत आलो. रस्त्यावरही शाळेत जाणारे मुलं आणि पालक दिसले. कितीही फिरलो आणि कितीही निसर्ग सौंदर्य बघितलं तरी कमी वाटेल असा आसमंत! परत होमस्टेकडे गेलो आणि पंचा चुलींना न्याहाळत चहाचा आनंद घेतला! जीपचा प्रवास करायचा असल्यामुळे नाश्ता टाळला.

जीप होमस्टेपाशीच मिळाली. फक्त मुनिस्यारीमध्ये सगळ्या लोकांना घरपोच जाऊन घेण्यात आणि पेट्रोल भरण्यात वेळ गेला. त्यामुळे प्रत्यक्ष बाहेर पडायला १२ वाजले. ह्या प्रवासात समोरची सीट मिळाली! त्यामुळे मनसोक्त फोटोज आणि व्हिडिओ घेता आले. 

पहाड़ी लोकांचा साधेपणा आणि एकमेकांना धरून राहण्याची वृत्ती सतत जाणवते. एका महिलेने अगदी सहजपणे जीप ड्रायव्हरकडे मोठी रक्कम दिली आणि पुढे एका गावात द्यायला सांगितली. त्यांच्या बोलण्यावरून जाणवत होतं की, ते काही आधीपासून ओळखीचे नाहीत. पण विश्वासाने तिने पैसे दिले आणि तितक्याच सहजपणे त्याने देतो म्हणून सांगितलं. मुख्य मार्गालगतच्या गावांमध्येही जीपने नंतर सामान पोहचवलं. जीपचा प्रवास खूप सुंदर झाला. खूप सुंदर व्ह्यू मिळाला. पुढे बरम गावात जीप जेवायला थांबली तेव्हाही बाजूच्या गोरीगंगेचं छान दर्शन घेता आलं. वाटेत अनेक वेळा थांबत थांबत गेल्यामुळे आणि जेवणाच्या ब्रेकमुळे पोहचायला उशीर होत गेला. जौलजिबीपासून मोठा रस्ता सुरू झाला. तरीही प्रत्यक्ष सत्गडला पोहचायला ५ वाजत आले. 

सत्गडला घरापर्यंत आता कच्चा रस्ता झाला आहे. पण तोही ट्रेकइतकाच सुंदर आहे. लॅपटॉप, बायनॅक्युलर आणि टेलिस्कोप घेऊन हा छोटेखानी १० मिनिटांचा ट्रेक केला. संध्याकाळच्या लाल सूर्यप्रकाशात काय विलोभनीय आसमंत दिसतोय! अर्थात् जाताना वाघाची आठवण आलीच! काही गाववासीही भेटले. अंधार पडण्याच्या थोडं आधी सत्गडला पोहचलो. सामानसह चालल्यामुळे मिळालेली उष्णता लवकरच गेली आणि थंडीचा कडाका सुरू झाला! अशा वेळी चहा खरोखर अमृततुल्य! घराच्या गच्चीतून दिसणारे डोंगर आणि झाडी हळु हळु काळोखात विलीन झाली. तारेही प्रकट झाले! आणि ध्वज मंदिरातला तेजस्वी दिवाही प्रकाशित झाला. चंद्र अजून जास्त उशीरा येत असल्यामुळे रात्री सत्गडमध्येही आकाश खूप छान मिळालं आणि आणखी छान फोटो घेता आले. उद्या ध्वज मंदिराचा ट्रेक करेन आणि परवा परतीचा प्रवास सुरू होईल!
