Hello. Today, 26th July. Who can forget the massive flood that Mumbai had seen on 26th July 2005? For entire the country, it was a tough lesson for disaster management. Mumbai and its famous spirit! But how many of us know that Mumbai is not a natural place? Many know that Mumbai is a group of 7 islands. Mahim, Worli, Parel, Small Colaba, Colaba, Mazgaon and Bombay were the names of the islands. But the islands were not connected. They were near each other, but they were not continuous. When the British King received the group of the islands from the Portuguese as dowry, they build their commercial centre here. The developed the place from their need of a market place, safe port and commercial hub. These islands were inhabited from ancient times. Fishermen communities mainly lived there and also famous cave monuments were also made. But these islands were not contagious. During the Monsoon the connectivity would cut off. If it was to be developed as a city, traveling and commuting had to be smooth.
