A girl from Nanded who clean bowled Mithali Raj!

Hello. Congrats to the Indian eves team and also congrats to those congratulating them! A very different revolution is happening. Not only for the girls' sports, but also for the sports in general. Yesterday when Mithali Raj was felicitating the players, I was reminded about a girl from Nanded in Maharashtra who had clean bowled Mithali Raj! Mithali played for India for 23 years, from 1999 to 2022. She holds the record for fastest Indian to complete 1000 ODI runs. When she was the captain in 2008, she would travel a lot to find new players. At that time, she had come to Nanded and a 16- year old junior girl had clean bowled her! Mithali appreciated her and gave guidance. 

The same girl told me this. She is my close friend. Her name too resembles Mithali! When she told this to me in 2020, she was in the dilemma- what to choose career OR cricket. The same situation depicted wonderfully in MS Dhoni movie. In cricket, she was very efficient in batting as well as bowling. She was so efficient that right from childhood, she would play with older boys. Her strokes would go long distances. After meeting Mithali Raj, she performed in some college competitions. She was also successful in some junior competitions. She also played in the State at a junior level. But.... 

... This but confronted her too. The question arose silently- whether to pursue the career or the sports? Her family was against the sports after a certain time. She too was loving her desired career path as she loved the sports. And pressures. They are there for everyone. Her family was no exception. Overall it was thought that she should quit the sports and follow a rather safe and assured career path. Finally she left the sports and chose her desired career and India missed a good player! 

Later on she studied persistently and appeared for tough competitive examinations. For years together she studied consistently for 16- 18 hours. She had wonderful focus. She toiled hard for many years. And today she is working as a high- level Government officer and serving the society. The sports, she might have missed that bus, but she has followed and realized her second passion. She is batting brilliantly, not in the match, but in the career path of her choice. She is building an innings on her own and has breaking the traditional shackles! 

When something comes from the bottom of the heart, then it actually does not belong to that person. It rather comes from this universe. Such thoughts have so much strength and they manifest for sure. Despite of any possibilities and any support, Anandibai wanted to become a doctor and help arrived for her from across the ocean! Such near- impossible stories and examples are there to see. 

Purpose of writing this is that talent or qualities are not limited to a chosen few. Many have such talent and quality. But they need support in form of encouragement and opportunities. Those who have tremendous quality and willingness to work hard never become unsuccessful. If one field denies them an opportunity, they succeed in another field. Only thing is that if they get a guide who recognizes their potential and if they get co- travelers, then their journey becomes little simple. Then they do inspire others and make the society proud!

मिताली राजला आउट करणारी नांदेडची मुलगी

नमस्कार. भारतीय मुलींच्या टीमबरोबर त्यांचं कौतुक करणार्‍यांचंही अभिनंदन! एक खूप वेगळी क्रांती घडते आहे. मुलींच्या खेळाबद्दल आणि एकूणच खेळाच्या जगताबद्दलसुद्धा. परवा मुलींचा सन्मान करणार्‍या मिताली राजला बघून तिला आउट करणारी नांदेडची मुलगी मात्र सारखी आठवते! मिताली राज १९९९ ते २०२२ ही २३ वर्षे भारतासाठी खेळत होती. सर्वांत कमी एकदिवसीय सामन्यांमध्ये एक हजार रन्स करणारा भारतीय खेळाडू हा विक्रम तिच्याच नावावर आहे. २००८ मध्ये ती कॅप्टन असताना अनेक ठिकाणी नवीन खेळाडू शोधायला जायची. तेव्हा ती नांदेडला आली होती. आणि ज्युनियर क्रिकेट खेळणार्‍या एका १६ वर्षांच्या मुलीने तिला आउट केलं होतं! अगदी क्लीन बोल्ड केलं होतं. मितालीने त्या मुलीचं खूप कौतुक केलं व तिला मार्गदर्शन केलं. 

हे सगळं मला त्या मुलीने स्वत: सांगितलं. ती माझी अतिशय जवळची मैत्रीण आहे. तिचं नावही अगदी मितालीसारखंच! हे तिने मला २०२० मध्ये सांगितलं जेव्हा ती करीअर का खेळ ह्या द्विधा मनस्थितीत होती. अगदी एमएस धोनी चित्रपटात दाखवलीय ती स्थिती. क्रिकेटमध्ये ती खूप जास्त प्रभावी होती- बॅटींग आणि बॉलिंग दोन्ही. इतकी जास्त की लहानपणापासूनच ती मोठ्या मुलांमध्येच खेळायची. तिचे शॉटस खूप लांब जायचे. मितालीशी भेट झाल्यावर पुढे तिने कॉलेजमध्ये अनेक स्पर्धा गाजवल्या. काही ज्युनियर स्पर्धांमध्ये चमकली. राज्य पातळीवरही ज्युनियर लेव्हलला ती खेळली. पण.... 

... हा मोठा पण तिच्यापुढेही आला. एक वेगळ्या वाटेचं करीअर करायचं का खेळायचं हा प्रश्न समोर आला. तिचे घरचेही एका मर्यादेच्या पुढे खेळाच्या विरुद्ध होते. आणि तिचं खेळाइतकंच आवडणार्‍या कामाच्या क्षेत्रावर प्रेम होतं. आणि प्रेशर्स. ती‌ तर प्रत्येकावर असतातच. त्यामुळे तिच्या कुटुंबावरही प्रेशर होतं. त्यातून तिने खेळ सोडून एक जास्त खात्रीचं व सुरक्षित करीअर निवडावं असा सूर होता. अखेर तिने खेळ सोडला, करीअरचं कार्यक्षेत्र निवडलं आणि भारत एका उत्तम खेळाडूला मुकला! 

तिने पुढे जिद्दीने अवघड स्पर्धा परीक्षा दिल्या. सातत्याने अनेक वर्षं सोळा- अठरा तास अभ्यास केला. कमालीची‌ एकाग्रता ठेवली आणि प्रचंड मेहनत कनेक वर्षं करत राहिली. आणि आज ती उच्चस्तरीय सरकारी अधिकारी होऊन समाजासाठी काम करत आहे. खेळ मागे राहिला तरी तिची दुसरी पॅशन तिने करून दाखवली आहे. क्रिकेटच्या मैदानात नाही पण आपल्या कार्यक्षेत्रात ती उत्तम बॅटींग करते आहे आणि चाकोरीच्या बाहेर एका वेगळ्या वाटेवर आपली खेळी उभी करते आहे! 

जेव्हा एखादी गोष्ट खूप मनाच्या आतून येत असते, तेव्हा ती त्या व्यक्तीची नसतेच. ती असते विराट विश्वाची. त्यामुळे अशा विचारांना खूप मोठी शक्ती असते. आणि ते विचार मॅनिफेस्ट होतातच. कोणतीही साधनं- शक्यता नसतानाही आनंदीबाईला डॉक्टर व्हावसं वाटलं आणि साता समुद्रापलीकडून तिला मदत मिळाली. अशा अनेक अशक्यप्राय कहाण्या आणि उदाहरणं आपल्या समोर आहेत. 

हे लिहीण्याचं प्रयोजन हेच की, प्रतिभा किंवा गुणवत्ता कोणाची एकट्याची नसते. अशी प्रतिभा व गुणवत्ता अनेकांकडे असते. तशी संधी त्यांना देणं आणि पुढे जाण्यामध्ये मदत करणं मात्र गरजेचं असतं. आणि ज्यांच्याकडे प्रचंड गुणवत्ता आहे, प्रचंड मेहनतीची तयारी आहे ते कधी अपयशी होऊच शकत नाहीत. एका क्षेत्रात संधी मिळाली नाही‌ तर ते दुसरीकडे नाव कमावतातच आणि योगदान देतातच. फक्त सुरूवातीच्या टप्प्यामध्ये योग्य पारख असलेला मार्गदर्शक मिळाला, पुढचे काही वाटाडे मिळाले तर त्यांचा प्रवास सोपा होतो आणि त्यांच्यामुळे समाज आणि देशाचा गौरवही वाढतो!
