Experiment 49. Making a lens from water

This experiment is told to me by my niece Aatmaja. For this, you will need a paperclip, a small pot (katori), any oil bottle, a spoon, a soap bottle, newspaper and clothe piece. Straighten the paperclip and bend it like "P or Hindi 9." Cover the bent paperclip with little oil. Don't let the oil dry. Do it quickly. Take the pot/ container and pour some soap in it. Add two drops of oil into it and stir it with the spoon. Now dip the bent paperclip in the mixture. There will be a thin lens of water in the bent "P" shape. Now by using this "P shape" let's read some paper or newspaper. Get it close to your eyes. If the lens does not stay on the paperclip for long, spread some more oil and dip it into the mixture again.

Activity 49. One more property of water!

You can even use water drop as a mini lens. Get some laminated page or put transparent plastic on some page. Now add a small drop of water on the text. If the drop is proper round shape, then it will surely zoom the text! It is a mini lens only! Due to its shape lens focus light rays and gives a magnified image. You know how to form bubbles. When air gets inside soap liquid, bubbles are formed. Check, can you use the bubbles also as lens.

प्रयोग 49. पाण्यापासून बनवलेले भिंग (लेन्स)

माझी पुतणी आत्मजाने हा प्रयोग मला सांगितला आहे. हे करण्यासाठी तुम्हांला एक पेपरक्लिप, एक छोटी वाटी, कोणतीही तेलाची‌ बाटली, एक चमचा, एक साबणाची बाटली, वृत्तपत्र व जुनं फडकं लागेल. पेपरक्लिप ओढून सरळ करा व तिला वाकवा आणि “P किंवा ९” सारखा आकार बनवा. वाकवलेल्या पेपरक्लिपवर थोडे तेल टाका. तेल सुकू देऊ नका. लगेचच पुढची कृती करा. वाटी घ्या व त्यामध्ये थोडा साबण टाका. त्यामध्ये तेलाचे दोन थेंब टाका व चमचा वापरून ढवळा. आता त्या मिश्रणामध्ये ती पेपरक्लिप बुडवा. वाकवलेल्या क्लिपच्या “P किंवा ९” आकारामध्ये एक पातळ भिंग तयार होईल. हा “P किंवा ९” आकार वापरून आपण वृत्तपत्राचा मजकूर वाचूया. पेपरक्लिप तुमच्या डोळ्यांच्या जवळ धरून बघा. जर पेपरक्लिपवर भिंग (तेल साबणाचे मिश्रण) चिकटून राहिले नाही, तर आणखी तेल टाका व ते परत मिश्रणात ढवळा.

गंमत 49. पाण्याचा आणखी एक गुणधर्म!

पाण्याचा थेंब वापरूनही तुम्ही‌ एक छोटं भिंग (लेन्स) बनवू शकता. लॅमिनेट केलेला पेपर घ्या किंवा एखाद्या पानावर पारदर्शक प्लास्टीक ठेवा. आता मजकुरावर पाण्याचा एक थेंब येईल असा प्लास्टीकवर किंवा लॅमिनेट केलेल्या कागदावर ठेवा. जर थेंब बरोबर गोलाकार असेल, तर तो नक्कीच मजकूर मोठा (झूम) करेल! हे एक छोटं भिंगच आहे! त्याच्या गोलाकारामुळे भिंगामधून प्रकाश किरण एका बिंदूवर आणले जातात व मोठी केलेली प्रतिमा मिळते. तुम्हांला साबणाच्या पाण्यामध्ये हवा भरून बुडबुडे बनवता येतात. तर अशा बुडबुड्यांचंही भिंग बनतं का, हे जरा तपासून बघा.
