Star exploded in sky- Supernova in Lupus constellation

5 million times brightened Star visible to the unaided eye

Supernova occurs when a star is exploded. This is one possibility in the last stage of the life of stars. If there is a star pair and one star is dwarf or if one has high mass, then such explosion occurs. The star exploded is a 22.3 magnitude star in Lupus constellation in Southern sky. On 12th June its explosion was noticed. Electronic survey systems revealed that the originally 22.3 magnitude star exploded and gained brightness of 8.7. On 19th June, its brightness increased to 5.7, that means it became so bright that even unaided eye can see it from dark skies. 

V462 Lupi is the name given to this Nova. It might have exploded hundreds of years ago, but we came to know only when its light reached us. This can be found out with the help of bright Centaurus constellation in the Southern sky. As its magnitude is 5.8, it can be observed through the naked eyes from a very dark sky. Through a binocular, it is easily observable. This star is near the Kappa Centauri of Centaurus constellation. Its position can be seen below: 

 

As this Supernova has around 40 degree declination, it cannot be observed beyond 35 degree North. In India, it can be observed at night between 9.30 to 11.30 by taking direction from bright Kappa Centauri star. For some days, it will remain bright. Although there are clouds these days, even if the sky region gets clear for just 15 minutes, it can be viewed through a binocular.

Supernova! One more miracle of the sky! In the year 1054, one such massive Supernova had emerged in Taurus constellation. At that time, its magnitude was -7 meaning it was brighter than Venus. For some weeks, it was visible even in the day! The then astronomers observed it and it is depicted in some cave drawings. Famous star in Orion constellation Betelgeuse is also on the verge of explosion. It can explode any time (meaning we can come to know about it). After the explosion, when its light will reach us, it will be much more bright. Brighter than even Venus and it can be visible in the day for an year! But when all of its light is thrown out, then “that famous spot in Orion” will be gone forever!

आकाशात तार्‍याचा स्फोट- ल्युपस तारकासमूहामध्ये सुपरनोव्हा

स्फोटामुळे 50 लाख पट तेजस्वी झालेला तारा डोळ्यांनी दिसू शकेल

सुपरनोव्हा (अति नवतारा) म्हणजे तार्‍याचा स्फोट होण्याची स्थिती. तार्‍यांच्या जीवनक्रमामध्ये शेवट होण्याची एक शक्यता असा स्फोट ही असते. तार्‍यांचं युगुल (पेअर) असेल व एक तारा खुजा (ड्वार्फ) असेल किंवा तार्‍याचं वस्तुमान जास्त असेल तर असा स्फोट होतो. स्फोट झालेला तारा दक्षिणेकडच्या वृक म्हणजे ल्युपस (Lupus) तारकासमूहातला +22.3 प्रतीचा तारा होता. त्याचा स्फोट झाल्याचं 12 जूनला लक्षात आलं. आकाशाचा इलेक्ट्रॉनिक सर्व्हे करणा-या यंत्रणेने +22 म्हणजे अति अंधुक असलेला हा तारा 8.7 इतक्या प्रतीचा म्हणजे तेजस्वी झाल्याचं सांगितलं. आणि 19 जून रोजी त्याची तेजस्वीता वाढून 5.7 इतकी झाली म्हणजेच तो नुसत्या डोळ्यांनी दिसण्याच्या मर्यादेइतका तेजस्वी झाला आहे. 

V462 Lupi नाव दिलेल्या ह्या तार्‍याचा स्फोट शेकडो वर्षांपूर्वी झाला. पण त्याचा प्रकाश पृथ्वीपर्यंत पोहचला तेव्हा स्फोटाची माहिती आपल्याला मिळाली. दक्षिण गोलार्धातील ठळक तारकासमूह नरतुरंगच्या (Centaurus) मदतीने ह्याची‌ दिशा शोधता येईल. 5.8 इतका तेजस्वी असल्यामुळे खूप निरभ्र व प्रकाश विरहित आकाशात नुसत्या डोळ्यांनी दिसू शकेल व बायनॅक्युलरने सहज दिसू शकेल. नरतुरंग तारकासमूहातील कॅप्पा तारा (Kappa Centauri) पासून हा तारा जवळच आहे. त्याची स्थिती वर बघता येईल.

हा अति नवतारा दक्षिण आकाशात 40 अंश डेक्लिनेशनवर असल्यामुळे तो उत्तर गोलार्धातून साधारण 35 अंश उत्तरेच्या पलीकडे दिसणार नाही. भारतामधून तो सध्या रात्री 9.30 ते 11.30 ह्या वेळेमध्ये नरतुरंग तारकासमूहातील ठळक अशा कॅप्पा ता-याच्या मदतीने शोधता येऊ शकतो. अजून काही दिवस तरी तो तेजस्वी राहील. सध्या ढग असले तरी अगदी 15 मिनिटांसाठी त्या भागातलं आकाश स्वच्छ झालं तरी तो बायनॅक्युलरने बघता येऊ शकेल इतका सोपा आहे.

सुपरनोव्हा म्हणजे अति नवतारे! आकाशातील आणखी एक चमत्कार! सन 1054 मध्ये वृषभ राशीमध्ये असाच एक अति नवतारा दिसला होता. त्यावेळी त्याची तेजस्वीता इतकी जास्त होती की, तो -7 म्हणजे शुक्राहूनही तेजस्वी झाला होता आणि काही आठवडे दिवसाही दिसू शकत होता. तत्कालीन निरीक्षकांनी त्याचं निरीक्षण केलं व काही गुहाचित्रांमध्येही त्याची प्रतिमा आढळते. मृग नक्षत्रातला प्रसिद्ध काक्षेय (Betelgeuse) तारासुद्धा स्फोट होण्याच्या मार्गावर आहे असं मानलं जातं. त्याचा स्फोट कधीही होऊ शकतो (म्हणजे झालेला असू शकतो). स्फोटानंतर त्याचा प्रकाश आपल्याकडे येईल तेव्हा आपल्याला आत्ता तो आहे त्याहून खूप जास्त प्रखर होईल. शुक्राहूनही तेजस्वी होईल आणि वर्षभर दिवसा दिसू शकेल! आणि जेव्हा त्याचे किरण पूर्ण फेकले जातील, तेव्हा मात्र "मृग नक्षत्रातली एक ओळखीची जागा" मात्र अदृश्य झालेली असेल!
