Total darkness, comet and assembly of stars

You are at such a place where there are no lights. Slowly the darkness is falling. The sun is set. Sun- glow is fading. Tikona and other mountains at a distance are fading. This place is on a hill. Darkness is increasing and stars are arriving one by one and they are led by Vega and Altar. Shortly, it is all dark and the sky is glowing! Firstly bright stars, then medium stars and then faint stars! And oh, even the white band of our Milkyway! Such a glorious sky! And of course, now the comet C/2025 A6 Lemmon has to show up! My telescope revealed its bright nucleus and long beautiful tail! I could observe it for half an hour and also capture it. After the comet, the Milky- way band in Sagittarius region, Great Hercules cluster (M13), Perseus double cluster and Andromeda Galaxy (M 31)! Binacular is showing plenty of stars everywhere! 61 Cygni, Alya, Delta Lyrae, Gama Velorium and other binary stars were observed!

Watching the sky from here with just eyes was a glorious experience! I also had the luxury of 4.5 inch telescope, a binocular and also exposure photography by the mobile! Astrophotography is a difficult subject and I am in primary standards. I could not capture the comet as I would have liked, but Andromeda paid for it! Phew! In the 40- minute exposure photo, Andromeda shone brilliantly. Plenty of stars were captured. Even stars up to magnitude +8 were captured! Also, neighbour of Andromeda in our sky, but actually a much distant Triangulum galaxy (M33) with magnitude 5.7 was also popped up in the photo! The photo revealed many star clusters. I enjoyed this treat for two hours. After Sagittarius set, bright Capella emerged above the mountain in the East. Pleiades and Hyades are already up and going! Before arrival of the king of the night, I captured many stars. In this starry show, there are many intruders too these days! I could also observe a plane chasing a satellite! ISS was so bright that I wonder its light might cast shadows!

This wonderful place is located at Anjanvel campus near Lonavala. No lights are there! Despite of being in Anjanvel campus, this place gives a feel of being away from everything. It is the launch pad to meet the stars! At this very place, on coming 14th and 15th November, a special observation session for the comet and the Leonid meteor shower is organized. During the last session at Anjanvel, the Moon also was brilliant. While observing the sun- spots, a plane also had a Sun- transit! I could also capture the meteor near the Orion. I could also capture the star trails (curved path of stars).

This comet Lemmon will be visible for some evenings from dark regions. You will need a binocular for this. The guest arrived after many years is returning now. There is a chance to see it before it goes too away.

*गडद अंधार, धुमकेतू आणि तारेच तारे*

✪ लेमन धुमकेतूचं दर्शन- अविस्मरणीय अनुभव
✪ आकाशगंगेचं पिठुर चांदणं आणि देवयानी आकाशगंगेचा झगमगाट
✪ सौर डाग बघताना सूर्यावरून जाताना दिसलेलं विमान!

तुम्ही अशा ठिकाणी आहात जिथे कोणत्याच दिव्याचा प्रकाश येत नाही. आणि हळु हळु रात्र होते आहे. सूर्य मावळून गेला आहे. संधीप्रकाश कमी होतोय. दूरवर दिसणारा तिकोना आणि इतर डोंगर हळु हळु फिकट होत आहेत. अगदी डोंगराच्या मधोमध असलेली ही जागा. अंधार वाढतोय आणि आकाशामध्ये तार्‍यांच्या मांदियाळीचं नेतृत्व अभिजीत आणि श्रवण करत आहेत. थोड्याच वेळात पूर्ण घनघोर अंधार होतो आणि आकाश उजळून निघतं! आधी अगदी ठळक तारे, नंतर मध्यम तारे, नंतर अंधुक तारे आणि पूर्ण अंधार पडल्यावर तर आकाशगंगेचा पांढरा पट्टा! अहा हा! इतकं सुंदर आकाश मिळालं आणि त्याबरोबर लेमन हा धुमकेतू (C/2025 A6 Lemmon) सुद्धा दिसला! टेलिस्कोपमधून त्याचं केंद्र व लांब असलेली शेपटीही सुंदर दिसली! अर्धा तास धुमकेतूचं निरीक्षण करता आलं. त्याचे फोटोही घेता आले. आणि धुमकेतूनंतर धनुराशीतला आकाशगंगेचा पट्टा, शौरी तारकासमूहातला तारकागुच्छ (M13), ययाति तारकासमुहातला जोड- तारकागुच्छ (डबल क्लस्टर), धनुरास ते श्रवण- अभिजीत पट्ट्यातील आपली आकाशगंगा आणि देवयानी आकाशगंगा (अँड्रोमिडा गॅलक्सी M31) अप्रतिम दिसले. बायनॅक्युलरने बघावं तिकडे तारेच तारे दिसले! सिग्नस 61, अलाया, डेल्टा लायरा, गॅमा व्हेलोरियम आणि इतर अनेक जोडतारेही दिसले!

इतक्या अप्रतिम ठिकाणावरून डोळ्यांनी नुसतं आकाश बघणं हा पारणं फिटेल असा अनुभव होता! त्याबरोबर साडेचार इंच दुर्बीण, एक बायनॅक्युलर आणि मोबाईल ट्रायपॉडला लावून एक्स्पोजर फोटोग्राफी असा त्रिवेणी संगम होता! अस्ट्रोफोटोग्राफी तसा अवघड विषय. ह्या विषयातल्या प्राथमिक इयत्तेमध्ये मी आहे. त्यामुळे धुमकेतूचा फोटो हवा तसा नाही आला. परंतु ही कसर देवयानी आकाशगंगेने भरून काढली. ४० मिनिटांच्या एक्स्पोजरमध्ये देवयानी आकाशगंगा कमालीची सुंदर आली. त्याशिवाय सर्वदूर तारेच तारे आले. अगदी +८ प्रतीपर्यंतचे अंधुक तारेसुद्धा टिपले गेले. आणि देवयानीच्या बाजूची पण खूप जास्त लांब अंतरावरची ट्रायंग्युलम गॅलक्सी (प्रत 5.7) सुद्धा फोटोमध्ये उमटली! अनेक तारकागुच्छ फोटोत आले. दोन तास हा अवर्णनीय आनंद घेतला. धुमकेतू मावळला, धनु रास मावळतीला आली तसा पूर्वेच्या डोंगरावर तेजस्वी ब्रह्महृदय प्रकट झाला. कृत्तिका- रोहिणी तर आहेतच. "तो" येण्यापूर्वी ह्या चांदण्यांचं चित्रीकरण केलं! चांदण्यांच्या मांदियाळीत भुरटेही खूप दिसतात हल्ली. एकदा तर विमान आणि कृत्रिम उपग्रहाचा जणू पाठलाग सुरू असलेला दिसला. ISS तर इतकं तेजस्वी दिसलं की त्याची सावलीही कदाचित पडली असावी!

शिळिंबच्या अंजनवेलच्याच परिसरातली ही एक विलक्षण जागा. अशी जागा जिथे दिव्यांचा प्रकाश अजिबात येत नाही! अंजनवेल कँपसमध्ये असूनही निर्जन जागी असल्याचा अनुभव देणारी जागा. एका अर्थाने आपल्याला तार्‍यांच्या जगामध्ये नेणारी जागा. तिथेच येत्या १४ व १५ नोव्हेंबरला धुमकेतू निरीक्षण व उल्का वर्षावाचं विशेष सत्र आयोजित केलं जात आहे. अंजनवेलमध्ये ह्यावेळी चंद्रही छान दिसला. त्याशिवाय सौर डाग निरीक्षण करताना सूर्यासमोरून गेलेलं विमानही दिसलं! मृग नक्षत्रामध्ये उल्कावर्षावही फोटोमध्ये टिपता आला. शिवाय तार्‍यांच्या वक्राकार भ्रमणाचा (स्टार ट्रेल) फोटोही बघता आला.

पुढील काही‌ दिवस शहराच्या बाहेरून संध्याकाळी पश्चिमेला धुमकेतूसुद्धा बायनॅक्युलरने दिसणार आहे. खूप वर्षांनी भेटायला आलेला हा पाहुणा आता परतीच्या वाटेला आहे. तो जास्त दूर जाण्याआधी त्याला बघण्याची ही शेवटची संधी आहे.
