Experiment 45. Make a rainbow!

You must have seen a rainbow during rainy days. When light passes through water drops, its colours are diffracted separately and a wonderful rainbow is produced. This sometimes also happens on the road, when Sunlight is reflected from oil. Even rainbow occurs near a waterfall. This happens due to the fact that light is made up of different wavelengths and they diffract differently. We had seen what diffraction is. Now let’s make the rainbow in our house. For this, you need a window with Sunlight entering your house. Now, take a bowl, add water into it and place a small mirror. Now put the bowl in the Sunlight and see its reflection on your wall. With slight adjustments, you will get a rainbow!

Activity 45. Multi- coloured wind mill

There are other ways to do the rainbow. If Sunlight is not available, you can use a bright torch or flash in the night and do the same thing. It will produce a rainbow. Also think about other ways of doing this. Now, we will do a different thing. Recently, we had made a paper windmill and also rotated it. Now, again make the paper wind mill. After its spades are ready, give different colour to each spade. Now hold it onto the pencil and put under a fan. It will rotate very fast and all colours will merge into white! When all colours are mixed, our eyes perceive it as white. 


प्रयोग 45. इंद्रधनुष्य बनवा!

पावसात तुम्ही इंद्रधनुष्य बघितलं असेलच. जेव्हा प्रकाश पाण्याच्या थेंबांमधून जातो, तेव्हा त्याचे रंग वेगळे होतात, प्रकाशाचं अपवर्तन होतं आणि मनमोहक इंद्रधनुष्य तयार होतं. हे कधी कधी रस्त्यावरही दिसतं, जेव्हा प्रकाश तेलावरून परावर्तित होतो. कधी ते झ-याजवळही दिसतं. हे होण्याचं कारण हे आहे की,  प्रकाश वेगवेगळ्या तरंगलांबीने बनलेला असतो आणि त्यांचं‌ अपवर्तन (diffraction) वेगवेगळं होतं. अपवर्तन म्हणजे काय, हे आपण एका प्रयोगात बघितलं आहे. तर आता घरामध्येच इंद्रधनुष्य बनवूया. त्यासाठी आत सूर्यप्रकाश येईल अशी एक खिडकी लागेल. आता एक भांडं घ्या, त्यात पाणी भरा व आतमध्ये एक छोटा आरसा ठेवा. सूर्यप्रकाशाचं प्रतिबिंब भिंतीवर घ्या. थोडा प्रयत्न केल्यावर तुम्हांला इंद्रधनुष्य मिळेल!

गंमत 45. बहुरंगी पवनचक्की

इंद्रधनुष्य बनवण्याचे इतरही प्रकार आहेत. जर सूर्यप्रकाश नसेल तर तुम्ही रात्री एखादा चांगला टॉर्च किंवा फ्लॅश वापरूनही हे करू शकता. तिथेही इंद्रधनुष्य तयार होईल. हे करण्याचे इतरही मार्ग तुम्ही करून बघू शकता. आता आपण एक वेगळी गोष्ट करू. काही दिवसांपूर्वीच आपण कागदी पवनचक्की केली होती व ती फिरवली होती. आता परत तशी कागदी पवनचक्की बनवा. तिची पाती तयार झाली की, त्यांना वेगवेगळे रंग द्या. आता पेन्सिलीवर ती पवनचक्की (भिंगरी) उचलून पंख्याखाली धरा. ती खूप वेगाने फिरेल व सर्व रंग जाऊन पांढरा रंग दिसेल. जेव्हा सगळे रंग एकत्र येतात, तेव्हा आपल्या डोळ्यांना तो रंग पांढरा दिसतो.
