Experiment 43. Game of air pressure and vacuum

Earlier we had done one simple experiment. We had set ablaze a candle and put a glass on it. After some time, the flame goes off as Oxygen is required for burning and once it is consumed, the flame cannot burn. We will do little more now. Take a tray or a steel plate. Put a tissue paper on it. Add some water. Now place the candle, set it ablaze and now put the glass. Once the flame goes off, then hold the glass and lift it. To your surprise, the tray will also be lifted. Even if you place two small objects on either sides, still the tray will be lifted with the glass. This happens due to vacuum and low pressure created in the glass. And combination of water and tissue paper do not allow air to leave thereby creating the vacuum suction. 

Activity 43. Making a flute from a straw

Through our experiments, we have seen that even small things like sticks, paper, carton paper and straws can be very handy in experiments! Never discard them. They are very useful. We have used straw for many things- to pierce a potato, to transfer water etc. Here, we will do one more straw experiment. Cut a small part of the straw. By using scissor, make a small hole or small opening. Now play it like a flute. You can try by cutting at various lengths. You will observe that the smaller the length, the stronger will be the voice. You can also use it like a whistle to surprise your friends!
 

प्रयोग 43. पोकळी व हवेचा दाब

आधीच्या एका प्रयोगात आपण एक मेणबत्ती पेटवली होती व तिच्यावर एक ग्लास ठेवला होता. काही वेळाने ज्योत विझून जाते, कारण जळण्यासाठी तिला ऑक्सीजन लागतो. ऑक्सीजन वापरून संपला की ज्योत विझते. आता आपण त्याहून पुढचा प्रयोग करू. एक ट्रे किंवा ताटली घ्या. त्यावर टिश्यु पेपर ठेवा. त्यावर पाणी ओता. आता मेणबत्ती ठेवा, पेटवा व तिच्यावर ग्लास ठेवा. ज्योत विझल्यानंतर ग्लास हळुच उचला व त्याच्यासोबत चक्क तो ट्रे किंवा ती ताटलीही उचलली जाईल!  तुम्ही ताटलीमध्ये दोन्ही‌ बाजूंना छोट्या वस्तु ठेवल्या, तरी ग्लाससोबत ट्रे उचललेला राहील. हे होण्याचं कारण ग्लासमध्ये कमी दाब आणि निर्वात (व्हॅक्युम) तयार होतं. आणी पाणी व टिश्यु पेपरमुळे आतली हवा बाहेर जाऊ शकत नाही व त्यामुळे पोकळी शोषली जाण्याचा (व्हॅक्युम सक्शन) परिणाम तयार होतो. 

गंमत 43. स्ट्रॉपासून बासरी

आपल्या प्रयोगांमध्ये आपण बघितलं आहे की, अगदी काड्या, कागद, पुठ्ठा व स्ट्रॉ अशा गोष्टींपासूनही आपण खूप प्रयोग करू शकतो! त्यांना कधीही फेकू नका. त्यांचा खूप उपयोग करता येतो. आपण स्ट्रॉचा उपयोग करून अनेक गमती केल्या आहेत. बटाट्यात तो खुपसला आहे, पाणी इकडून तिकडे नेलं आहे वगैरे. आता आपण अजून एक प्रयोग स्ट्रॉचा करू. स्ट्रॉचा एक भाग कापा. कात्री वापरून त्यामध्ये छोटं छिद्र किंवा फट तयार करा. तुम्ही आता ते बासरीसारखं वाजवू शकता. वेगवेगळ्या लांबीवर तुम्ही कापून बघू शकता. तुमच्या लक्षात येईल की, जितकी कमी लांबी, तितका मोठा आवाज येतो. तुम्ही त्याचा वापर शिट्टीसारखा करूनही मित्रांना दचकवू शकता.
