Experiment 14. Transfer of water through a cloth!

This is a simple experiment. All you need is two- three glasses and a old piece of handkerchief or napkin. Fill one glass of water. Fold the handkerchief or napkin and bend it. Then put its one end in the filled up glass and keep the other end in the empty glass. After some hours, water would be transferred to the empty glass! This happens due to capillary action and surface tension of water. You can transfer water even to the third glass from the second! And even you can put the second glass on a little height than the first glass. This capillary action overcomes even gravitation!

Activity 14. Make a crossword with names of your friends!

You know crosswords. It is a box of words having common alphabets. For example, if you have two friends named Advika and Ananya, then you can write Advika horizontally and the letter “A” will start name Ananya vertically. With little efforts, you can make a crossword with names of your friends. For this, you need to have overlapping letters. For example, Sarita, Sachin. Shalaka, Kajal etc. You can prepare the easiest crossword with three- four row cells and three- four column cells. This will be more easy in your regional language. Try. Enjoy.

प्रयोग 14. पाणी इकडून तिकडे नेणे!

हा एक सोपा प्रयोग आहे. तुम्हांला त्यासाठी फक्त दोन- तीन ग्लासेस व जुना रुमाल किंवा नॅपकीन लागेल. एक ग्लास पाण्याने भरा. रुमाल किंवा नॅपकीन दुमडा व त्याचं‌ एक टोक भरलेल्या ग्लासात बुडवा व दुसरं टोक रिकाम्या ग्लासात ठेवा. काही‌ तासांनी पाणी रिकाम्या ग्लासात गेलेलं दिसेल! पाण्याची केशाकर्षण क्रिया (capillary action) आणि पृष्ठीय ताणामुळे (surface tension) हे होतं. तुम्ही दुस-या ग्लासच्या पुढे तिसरा ग्लास ठेवला तरी त्यामध्येही पाणी जाईल! आणि तुम्ही ग्लास थोड्या उंचीवर ठेवला तरीही तिथे पाणी जाईल. कारण ही केशाकर्षण क्रिया गुरूत्वाकर्षणापेक्षा प्रबळ असते!

गंमत 14. तुमच्या मित्रांची नावे वापरून शब्दकोडं बनवा!

शब्दकोडं तुम्ही‌ बघितलं आहे. सोपं शब्दकोडं तुम्ही स्वत: बनवू शकता. तुमच्या मित्रांची नावं असलेलं शब्द बनवून पाहा. समजा तुमच्या मित्र- मैत्रिणींची नावं त्यासाठी समान अक्षरं असलेली हवीत. म्हणजे प्रसन्न- प्रज्ञा, अद्विका- काजल अशी हवीत. एक नाव आडवं व पहिल्या अक्षरापासून उभं दुसरं नाव. आणि शक्य असेल तर तिसरं नाव असं घेऊ शकता ज्याच्यापासून अजून एक नाव बनेल. थोडा विचार केला तर सहज जमेल. सर्वांत सोपं तीन आडवी अक्षरं व तीन उभी अक्षरं असलेलं शब्दकोडं तुम्ही सहज बनवू शकता. प्रयत्न करा. त्याचा आनंदही घ्या.
