Experiment 27. A straw piercing a potato!

Get one potato, one pencil and one straw. Try to insert the sharp end of the pencil into the potato. It will not move inside. Try for some time. Now use the straw to make a hole in the potato. When you pierce the straw, slight impact will be there and the straw will be twisted. It will not be pierced. Try this for some time. Now close the straw and lock the air inside the straw by using your finger. Now hit the potato with the straw! This time, it will be pierced and if you do it properly, the straw can come out from the other side of the potato! Reason for this is that when we close the air, there is air pressure inside the straw and it increases its force. Also, the potato is soft from within.

Activity 27. Straw, paper and carton- paper

You can do the same experiment differently. Now instead of the potato, try to pierce the straw on a folded paper. You can check till how many folds, the straw can pierce the paper. You can also use the carton paper. If it is slick, the straw can pierce it. In place of the straw, you an also use a small tube with the potato. In fact, you can do the same experiment with non- eatable black berry (jamun) fruit and grapes! Do you know this? Although water is soft and fluid than a rock, if continuously it keeps on falling on the rock, it breaks and moulds it.


प्रयोग 27. बटाट्यात आरपार जाणारा स्ट्रॉ

एक बटाटा, एक पेन्सिल आणि एक स्ट्रॉ घ्या. पेन्सिलीचं टोक बटाट्यामध्ये खूपसून बघा. ते आत जाणार नाही. प्रयत्न करून पाहा. आता स्ट्रॉच्या मदतीने बटाट्यामध्ये छिद्र पाडण्याचा प्रयत्न करा. थोडा आघात होऊन स्ट्रॉ वाकडा होईल व त्यामुळे स्ट्रॉ आत घुसणार नाही. काही वेळा असा प्रयत्न करा. आता स्ट्रॉला बोटाने वरून बंद करा. स्ट्रॉमध्ये हवा आतमध्ये अडकेल असा तो बोटाने बंद करा व जोराने बटाट्यावर मारा. आता तो आत खुपसला जाईल व थोडा प्रयत्न केला तर बटाट्याच्या आरपारही जाईल! हे होण्याचं कारण म्हणजे हवा बंद केल्यावर स्ट्रॉमध्ये हवेचा दाब तयार होतो व त्यामुळे आघाताचं‌ बल वाढतं. शिवाय बटाटा आतून मऊ असतो.

गंमत 27. स्ट्रॉ, कागद आणि पुठ्ठा  

हाच प्रयोग तुम्ही अजूनही वेगळा करू शकता. स्ट्रॉवर बोट ठेवून कागदाच्या घडीवर किंवा पुठ्ठ्यावर स्ट्रॉ खूपसून पाहा. पुठ्ठा जर पातळ असेल तर स्ट्रॉ आत जाऊ शकेल. कागद वापरत असाल तर स्ट्रॉ किती घड्यांच्या कागदातून आरपार जाऊ शकतो हे तपासून पाहा. बटाट्यासोबत तुम्ही स्ट्रॉच्या ऐवजी छोटी नळीसुद्धा वापरून बघू शकता. हाच प्रयोग तुम्ही खाण्यायोग्य नसलेल्या जांभूळ व द्राक्ष अशा फळांवरही करून बघू शकता! पाणी हे खडकापेक्षा अगदी मऊ व तरल असलं तरी सातत्याने खडकावर पाणी पडत राहिलं तर खडकही झिजतो व तुटतो हे तुम्हांला माहिती आहे ना?
